Californian Cabernet Sauvignon

I very much enjoyed this cab. First of all, can we talk about the cute gold packaging?! Come on… The wine itself was very smooth with a classic taste profile. It is aged in a French oak barrel for about a year and has a red color that sits beautifully in any wine glass, XOXO.

Argentinan Pinot Gris

The back label reads “A harsh and extreme climate at the foot of the impressive Cordillera Mountains, a high altitude and rocky volcanic ground (black rocks), this is our terrior. The wines that come from this region are full-bodied yet smooth, intense and varied; typical considering their grape variety. They are very pleasurable wines.”

This is 100% pinot gris, the first of its kind to be planted in Argentina. It ripened early and picked later than usual. It smells of citrus and berries. I love the fresh taste and crisp finish. And don’t even get me started on the color!!! SO PRETTY.

Jumilla Blend

This is a beautiful Spanish red blend with the following breakdown of grape varietals: Monastrell %75, Grenache 15%, and Syrah 10%. The Monatstrell grape is of the Valencia Region and this particular wine is made in the Jumilla district, which is essentially South-Eastern Spain and closer inland than to the Mediterranean. The blend is dark, leggy, and on the heavier side. It is slightly spicy and well-balanced. I loved drinking a glass of this wine during the workweek as a nice way to wind down after a long day, XOXO.

Guenoc Valley Red Blend

I scored a deal at my local wine shop and got two of these to share with my family around the holidays. Everyone truly enjoyed them.

This blend is a beautiful ruby color so show it off in your biggest and boldest glass. It is grown and produced in Guenoc Valley, California, which is about 90 miles north of San Francisco. The 2014 vintage had a warm summer, which let fruits fully shine through. The nose is definitely fruity and the finish is wonderfully smooth. The blend breakdown is 70% Merlot, 15% Petite Sirah, 10%  Petit Verdot, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.

This is a great winter time wine that is complex in nature but oh-so easy to drink, XOXO.

Italian Prosecco

HAPPY 2017!!!

What better way the perfect kick off the new year than with a sparkly wine review?!

I enjoyed this Prosecco with my husband and in-laws for New Years Eve this past weekend prior to our fun night out. It was a hit! Self-admittedly, I don’t know much about sparkling wines (and still have a lot to learn about all wines) but I found this to be a fancier version of what I’d typically pick for a celebratory night. It was not too sweet and not too dry so I think it would be enjoyed by all wine-drinkers alike.

On a related note, thank you to those who have visited and loved on my blog since starting this journey early last year. I appreciate the connections I have made, intend to get on a more regular posting schedule, and hope to grow my blog this year!!!

Thanks for stopping by and until next wine.

XOXO

Argentinian Torrentos

This is a beautiful, intense yellow-white wine. It is filled with heavy floral flavors and bright citrus aromas. The taste is dry, unoaked, and oh-so yummy. It is on the heavier bodied side with a long-lasting finish. It comes from Mendoza, Argentina, known for high temps during the day and very low at night, which retains acidity within the wine.

This was my first Torrentos and most certainly won’t be my last, XOXO!

Italian Toscana

This wine is very similar to a Chianti. They are both grown and produced in Tuscany and contain the classic sangiovese grape. The main difference between this Toscana and a Chianti is that this is a bit riper and fruitier. Nonetheless it’s a great table wine that doesn’t need to be overthought, just enjoyed with family. Visit their website here to see more about Petrolo and get lost in the gorgeous photos of Italian landscapes, over a glass of wine of course, XOXO.

French Viognier

This is a medium to full-bodied yummy flowery wine. The fruit aroma is heavy and the weight is similar to a Chardonnay, though there is no oaky or buttery effect. It feels almost oily on the tongue and has an intense floral finish. A perfect pairing with a light summer dish, XOXO.

New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc

I feel so fortunate to live in Wisconsin, where this type of lake view is not all that hard to come by. This weekend I enjoy a new-to-me Sauvignon Blanc on the pontoon boat… It was a match made in heaven. The bottle said “enjoy in the sunshine” and I took that as a direct order.

This wine has sharp acidity with strong flavors of green fruits, which is common for the lower island region of New Zealand because of the cooler climate. It is tart and light with no oak presence. The color is pale and the sweetness dry. I enjoyed this wine quite a bit. It was perfect for a little sun and a lot of relaxation, XOXO.

Aged Chianti

image

It’s that time of year where my taste buds start to convince me to put away the red and break out the white. Are there any other red lovers out there who just don’t seem to crave it as much in the warmer weather? Chianti is on the very light spectrum of red so I find that it’s much more satisfying in the heat.

I recently tried this Chianti, which was very drinkable alone although it would pair nicely with a big juicy cheeseburger. It has a light body and is fruit forward on the nose. This wine is aged in french oak barrels for about a year so it has a little deeper type of flavor than others like it. I think it’s a great option for summertime or even for the white wine lovers out there who might want to start getting more in to reds, XOXO.
