Wisconsin White Blend

This wine is near and dear to my heart because it is one that we served at our wedding. Part of why we picked it is because this wine is a good option for both sweet and dry white wine lovers. It has the perfect compromise between sweet summer pineapple and dry tart apple. I’m also from Wisconsin, so love to support Cedarcreek as a local winery in my area.

Wine: A Tasting Course

In my first wine review, I referenced a book that I have been using to help me learn more about wine and today I’m excited to share it on my blog. The book is called “Wine: A Tasting Course” and I have loved every minute of reading through it! I spent some time in the past researching and paging through other wine books. In comparison I think this one is the best for a few reasons.

First of all it is not “stuffy”. This book is ideal for someone like myself, an average person who is looking to expand on wine knowledge. The setup is also extremely easy to follow. I use the first half of the book to read through page-by-page and mark off areas I may want to go back to. I use the second half by opening a bottle of wine (my favorite part) and referencing the corresponding area of the book. It has been really fun to match up the wine and book. I find that it helps me understand the information better and remember it more clearly. This book is filled with helpful infograms, charts, and photos that are useful for anyone who learns visually, like myself.

Overall, “Wine: A Tasting Course” is the perfect purchase if you want to expand your wine knowledge in a fun and easy way. You can check out the book by clicking here to page through or purchase. I hope this review was helpful for all my wine-loving friends out there. It is a recommended buy from me to you, XOXO.

Any recommendations on other fun and helpful wine books?

Argentinian Sauvignon Blanc

As you can tell by the photo above, I have certainly been enjoying this warm weather :).

Last night I tried another white that matched perfectly with the sunshine. The back label describes this wine as having “bright aromas of fresh pink grapefruit that mingle with floral notes” and I fully agree. It has a nice amount of mineral balance and the finish is so yummy that you just have to try it for yourself!

Until next wine, XOXO.

White Italian Blend

Talk about a perfect wine for the spring season, this baby is it!!! It’s a half pinot grigio, half sauvignon blanc blend… “due uve” literally means two grapes so that is very fitting. Medium body with hints of citrus fruit and a balanced acidity on the finish. Not too sweet and not too dry. Loved it, XOXO.

Wine & Painting

Hi everyone, I hope that you are loving your weekend and not feeling the “Sunday blues” too hard this evening. I spent some of my Saturday sipping wine and painting with friends (no complaints here) and wanted to share some thoughts I have on the wine & paint experience. I’ve been to three different studios in the Southern Wisconsin area, each of which offer a little something different with the same idea behind it all. If you love wine and can hold a paint brush, I would recommend any of these studios. I can’t pick a favorite (don’t make me!), they are all great options.

So here are my thoughts… XOXO.

Splash Studio

Location: Milwaukee

Thoughts: This was my first ever wine & paint experience so I had no idea what to expect. I came here for my friend’s bachelorette party and the six of us participated in a larger group paint event. The party-type atmosphere was my favorite part! They play upbeat music and the whole place was singing, dancing, and laughing. It definitely feels more like you’re at a bar. This is a bigger studio and it was packed when we went. Beware that because the instructor-to-student ratio is so small, they won’t hesitate to move on if you don’t keep up.

PaintBar

Location: Delafield

Thoughts: I loved my first wine & paint experience so much that I bought my mom a gift card for Christmas to try it out herself… and then I went with :). The class included the two of us and one other painter. There was a lot of opportunity for more one-on-one time with the instructor, who was very willing to help make the piece look the best it could. The instructor took their time to make sure we were able to follow along. This was also more of an intimate setting in a super cute location. The mellow atmosphere was perfect for going with my mom on a weeknight.

Artful Escapes

Location: Madison

Thoughts: My friend’s husband planned a surprise girl’s day out to celebrate her birthday and this was our first stop of the day. He signed the eight of us up for a private event. This was a medium-sized studio. My friend got to pick her favorite painting and our awesome instructor really made us all feel comfortable and relaxed. There was staff assistance available for questions and their help was welcomed by all of us. They did a really nice job of teaching us easy, specific techniques to make our masterpieces look… well pretty good.

Chilean Unoaked Chardonnay

Those who know me best know that I love a regular glass (bottle) of wine. Recently I’ve wanted to learn more about wine and try as many new ones as I can get my hands on! My mom got me a really nice wine book for my birthday this past year and I have been using it to guide my adventure in becoming more knowledgeable about wine.

Yesterday was one of the first warm weather days of the new year in my area and I celebrated by breaking out this baby…

…it was the perfect warm weather treat! Very light, crisp, and full of yummy apple flavors. Not heavy or buttery at all because it is unoaked. Overall I think this is a really nice, reasonably priced option for spring and summer, which is when I like to enjoy whites the most.

Stay tuned for more information on the book I have been using and more reviews on the new wines I start to try! XOXO
